John L. Sorrells
Originally
from Nashville, Tennessee, John’s family was called by Grace Baptist to
live and serve in Sumter in 1976. John attended Sumter high School, Furman
University, and Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky. John has enjoyed
teaching and coaching at Camden High, Broome High and Dorman High School.
While at Furman, John met his bride, Tina.
God planted a love for ministry in their union and they have enjoyed
serving Christ together in schools, communities and churches. Tina’s
home is her most important mission. She loves to decorate, cook and
provide a warm, nurturing environment not only for her family, but also
for guests. Together they are blessed with three children, Josh, 17,
Lauren, 15, and Dayton, 12. They have a keen sense of God’s calling on
the family and have been amazing in the transition to Sumter.
God has allowed John a broad place to serve
Him. Serving in many churches as a student minister, deacon and Sunday
school teacher, John is humbled and elated to serve the Sumter community
as Pastor of Crosspoint Baptist Church. The last five years at First
Baptist Spartanburg has been a rich training ground.
His life verse is John 3:30 "He must
increase, but I must decrease." His favorite verse is Philippians
4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And
the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." |
